About This Course

IPSV impacts on children can be physical or psychological, compromising development and life-long health. Violence against mother is identified as an adverse childhood experience (ACE) in research correlating early adversities with adult physical and mental illness. IPSV affects parenting and is a risk factor for child maltreatment. While IPSV survivors strive to protect their children, they benefit from concrete strategies to prevent abuse and mitigate its effects. Informed provider responses can increase safety for IPSV-affected adults and children and open paths to healing.

Learning Objectives:

• Increase awareness that IPSV-exposed children not only “witness” abuse, but often are profoundly hurt by the defining dynamic in their significant adults’ relationships and life at home
• Increase understanding IPSV as potential trauma to children, interrupting attachment and developmental trajectories and possibly resulting in life-long harm
• Increase awareness of IPSV impact on parenting and the health of the non-offending parent-child relationship
• Introduce fundamentals of IPSV disclosures and trauma-informed response
• Explore strategies to increase safety for IPSV-affected individuals and their families and to promote healthy parenting for long-term healing
• Review resources and Philadelphia referrals to support IPSV-impacted individuals and their children

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU.
