About This Course

Our youth are connected to each other via social media, and those relationships are meaningful and important. However, youth spending time with peers, in person, is essential to their healthy development. Just published research indicates that youth are experiencing loneliness at higher levels now, especially with the impact of COVID. Research has shown that teenagers and young adults are lonelier than any other age group, and a national survey found that 4 out of 10 young people described themselves as feeling sad, misunderstood, suffering from FOMO and without anyone to talk to. Youth who are lonely may be as much as three times more likely to develop depression in the future, and the impact of loneliness on mental health can last for years. Recently published research found that a significant predictor of satisfying romantic relationships, adult work competence and quality of life in adulthood was positive peer relationships in middle and high school. 

 

Learning Objectives: 

• Examine research addressing youth and loneliness, peer relationships and mental health;
• Look at the importance of developing and creating peer connections;
• Review strategies and resources in the social-emotional development and healthy peer relationships among youth.

Educators, school staff, & behavioral health provider agency staff.

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

Credit Statements:

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU. 
As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.  BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program.
