About This Course

This workshop will provide an in-depth overview of the characteristics of Emerging Young Adults transitioning out of the child welfare system into adult services. It will provide a foundation for understanding the characteristics of this population, the impact of lived experience, the complexities of those with ID/ASD and other cognitive challenges, and the required pathways to support their resilience. The course will highlight that emerging young adults are not simply transitioning out of the child welfare and child behavioral health systems, they are “aging forward”, navigating a critical developmental period where the right supports can significantly influence lifelong health, stability, and independence.

Learning Objectives: 

• Identify the unique strengths, needs, and vulnerabilities of emerging young adults. 
• Understand the experiences of young adults transitioning from child welfare and other child-serving systems. 
• Describe disenfranchised grief and attachment challenges impact a young adult’s safety, trust, relationships, and interaction with others.   
• Provide an understanding of how young adults have adaptive responses to past experiences, rather than intentional defiance or a lack of interest in relationships. 
• Learn how to develop integrated care plans that support resilience, recovery and self-determination. 
• Outlining the different pathways based upon clinical needs of the young adult with ID/ASD.

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

Credit Statements:

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU. 
As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.  BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program.
