About This Course
This introductory program is designed to support professionals responding effectively to families and youth who resist, dismiss, or actively reject therapeutic intervention. Help-rejecting patterns often create frustration, power struggles, and therapeutic impasses, particularly when behavioral urgency places pressure on caregivers and clinicians alike. Participants will explore how integrating complementary approaches can strengthen clinical flexibility while maintaining model fidelity. The program highlights how principles of Non Violent Resistance (NVR) can be thoughtfully integrated with Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) to reduce escalation, restore parental leadership, and interrupt negative interactional patterns. Through video recorded case study participants will learn how to shift from power struggles to calm, organized, and relationally grounded responses.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to define psychotherapy integration.
- Participants will be able to describe 2 phases of Non Violent Resistance (NVR) that can be integrated with ESFT.
- Participants will be able to describe 3 interventions of NVR that can be integrated with ESFT.
