About This Course

Recovery from addiction involves more than addressing substance use alone. This training explores addiction as a condition that impacts physical, emotional, social, and psychological well-being and examines the role holistic approaches can play in supporting recovery. Participants will review the foundations of substance use disorders and traditional treatment approaches before exploring complementary strategies such as yoga, meditation, exercise, nutrition, art and music therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, and other wellness practices. The session highlights how holistic approaches can enhance overall well-being, reduce stress, support recovery goals, and complement evidence-based addiction treatment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe addiction and recovery as processes that affect multiple dimensions of health and well-being.
  • Differentiate between traditional addiction treatment approaches and complementary holistic recovery supports.
  • Identify a variety of holistic approaches commonly used to support addiction recovery.
  • Discuss the potential benefits and limitations of holistic approaches when used alongside evidence-based treatment.
  • Explore practical strategies that may support stress reduction, wellness, and long-term recovery.
