About This Course

The role of marijuana in society is changing. What used to be considered an illegal and dangerous drug is now become legalized as medicine and in many states legalized for recreational use. Clinicians working in mental health and substance use treatment settings are faced with clients who use marijuana for various reasons in its various forms and are confronted with how to address its use clinically. This presentation will review marijuana in its various forms, explore the endocannabinoid system, discuss how to evaluate and intervene with clients who use marijuana products, and discuss the current state of medical marijuana.

Learning Objectives: 

• Describe the effects of marijuana on mental health and the body.
• Discuss how to evaluate a client’s marijuana use.
• List intervention strategies for clients using marijuana.
• Describe the current evidence-based indications for medical marijuana.

Intended Audience: 

All behavioral health providers, especially those working in drug and alcohol settings.

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.
