About This Course

In today’s connected world, the digital environment is a central part of youth identity, relationships, and daily life. Social media, gaming, and online communities can foster creativity and connection—but they can also lead to stress, anxiety, isolation, and self-comparison. Their digital environment can have a profound influence on the developing mind and mental health of young people. During the workshop we will examine current research on the psychological and relational impacts of the digital engagement, discuss emerging trends in online behavior, and review strategies and resources to better support youth navigating the pressures and possibilities of the online world.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will identify the ways in which digital spaces influence youth mental health, including both risk and protective factors.
  • Attendees will look at the signs of digital overload, online stress, and social media–related distress among youth.
  • Participants will examine the connections between online behavior, self-esteem, identity development, and emotional well-being.
  • Attendees will review strategies and resources to promote healthy digital habits and resilience in youth across school and agency settings.

Intended Audience:

Educators, school staff, & behavioral health provider agency staff.
